CCAF NEEDS YOU!

The Concerned Citizens Association of Farmingdale, Inc. (CCAF) is a non-profit, non-partisan neighborhood organization dedicated to representing all residents and homeowners of Farmingdale, who wish to maintain and enhance the quality of life in our community. Help us preserve our suburban atmosphere while uniting residents to resolve our neighborhood's challenges. Help us choose our future causes and determine what we, as a community, want our community to be. Tell us your issues and concerns and we'll make them ours.

Since our inception in May of 2001, we have accomplished:

Liberty Superfund site: We achieved our goal of persuading the EPA to require soil cleanup to recreational standards. With the help of the Town of Oyster Bay, 15 acres of this blighted property will become parkland, doubling the size of Allen Park!!

SEA Fund:  We lobbied the Town of Oyster Bay for a portion of this money.  As a result of our efforts, the Sea Fund Committee allocated $5 million to purchase 5-10 acres of land adjacent to Ellsworth Allen Park.

Parking issues: We discouraged the Village from using “eminent domain” to create a parking lot by destroying one person’s home and decreasing the value of others.  We further want to address village parking problems & illegal parking issues, including commercial vehicles on residential streets.

Day Laborer site:  We were active in getting a Day Laborer site removed from a residential block in Farmingdale. We are attempting to stay informed and gather info so that an agreeable/beneficial solution can be found.

Maintenance of Commercial Property: CCAF encourages business code compliance, such as enclosing dumpsters and locking up paint products.  We are also urging businesses to improve their exteriors by removing graffiti and repairing fences, broken sidewalks, and parking lots.

Quality of Life Issues:  We are in frequent contact with and working with the P.O.P. officers of Nassau County to discourage vagrancy, gang organization and to encourage neighborhood maintenance to make our streets more friendly and safe. CCAF intervenes on residents’ behalf to keep sidewalks, storm water basins, parks, trees, etc. properly maintained.

Additional items currently on our agenda:

Stop & Shop: CCAF is working to make the eastern Liberty Property redevelopment responsive to community concerns by insisting on traffic, land use, and noise controls and limits to hours of operation. We are lobbying TOB for a public hearing on this site to be held in Farmingdale.

Republic Airport: We oppose expansion, increased large aircraft traffic, resulting pollution, increased noise, safety risks and decreased property values. We are also lobbying for the 60,000 pound weight limit enforcement.

Spagnoli Road KeySpan power plant: CCAF wants to avoid hazards to the environment, the pilots, and surrounding communities.

Vision 2020 Committee: Our President, Michael Grello, is on the Town of Oyster Bay “Vision 2020” Committee and is actively involved in the future development and preservation of our Town.

Graffiti and Litter: CCAF continues efforts to eliminate this blight. To date we have had numerous Graffiti tags removed, and nearly all dumpsters fenced in or removed.

Gang Activity:  CCAF is working with police to inform the public and to discourage gang activity in our neighborhoods and schools.

We are open to all topics that concern Farmingdale residents!
